We read all of chapter 8 of the novel and into chapter 9
We got the due date for part one of the Hunger Games Unit. It's going to be March 7th.

Tuesday Feb 21
A catch-up day for people who needed to write their quiz or complete their paragraphs.
Everyone else started reading chapter 1 and had a small recap discussion.
We will begin working on the first chapter questions before moving on to chapter 2.

Wed Feb 15
In class today, we talked about paragraph writing and what makes a good paragraph (descriptive writing, formatting, style).
We began conferencing with students about their paragraph assignment. The second half of the class will get the opportunity to conference before the second round of conferencing takes place. There are some great ideas coming out of this class - keep working at it, keep going!
Chesser was emailed a rather cool looking document of the notes taken, too. He likes learning and teaching in the 21st Century. And team teaching is pretty cool, too!

Feb 13
Well, I'm not there. That's just to make it official.
I'm at home, resting after emergency surgery on Sunday. Everything is ok, and I'll be back in a few weeks. In any case, I got this from Miss Perino, who is the teacher now.
We read "On the Sidewalk Bleeding". Talked about the discussion questions before filling in the answers independently. Also made note of the literary elements (Setting, protagonist/antagonist, conflict, POV)
We introduced to the idea of the Comparative paragraph and began to jot down ideas for what character student will compare ourselves to for the paragraph assignment!

Friday Feb 10
So ... we started today taking up the homework on "Vital Factor".
We also chatted very briefly about using your time while in class ... do your homework while in class and it makes getting through high school a lot less sticky.
Then we read the story 'The fun they had" by Issac Assimov. I found a reading on youtube:

After that, we got some time to work on the questions and terms for Monday.
Then ... in the last 20 minutes of class we did take a look at the Task Three Paragraph piece of writing that is due Feb 21.

So ... I updated yesterday's post - I got confused between the two English classes I'm teaching at the moment. I can honestly say ... that happens!
In any case, it's fixed now ... and we moved on, too.
We started today by talking about and taking up homework on The Sniper. Then we read "Vital Factor" by Nelson Bond. We got the questions and the terms for homework tonight, too.
During the reading, I talked about a famous engineer and entrepreneur Elon Musk and his attempts at doing the same thing at SpaceX, one of his companies.
In any case, it's fixed now ... and we moved on, too.

OK, so today we started the Short Pieces Unit.
We read the first story "The Sniper" by LiamO'Flaherty. What a story!
We got the questions for that story, and we also got the terms
